Erick A. Lindgren, a man of Swedish origin, was born in Burney, California on August 11th 1976. The professional poker player, commonly referred to as “E-dog”, has been known to have a serious gambling problem. Lindgren is a huge fan of sports, not just because of the thrill of watching the games, but for the money he has made from placing bets. However, the gambling spiraled out of control, leaving Lindgren in a massive pool of debt in the year 2011.
After getting counsel from his fellow poker star wife, Erica Schoenberg, and a few close friends, Lindgren joined a rehabilitation program in November 2012. According to Lindgren, his gambling addiction was nurtured by the lifestyle that he lived before he settled down and started a family; his life basically revolved around playing poker, traveling the world and betting on sports. He currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his wife and two-year-old son.
Just like many other professional poker players, Lindgren discovered the sport during his younger years, but it wasn’t until later on in his life that he went pro. Lindgren played and won in his first major poker tournament in the year 2002. This took place in Bellagio, and ten months later, he won his first World Poker Tournament (WPT) title. Hardly half a year later, Lindgren won a prize of one million dollars during a WPT cruise.
Lindgren has got two World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelets to his name, and two WPT titles. Consequently, the 37-year-old has made millions of US dollars over the last dozen years of his poker career. He has played against numerous poker champions, globally, and has beaten a good number of them. An example of such an instance was in 2006 during the Poker Pro Showdown event where he won the cash prize of $600,000, after beating Mike Matusow, Chris Ferguson, Erik Seidel, Phil Ivey and John Juanda. Lindgren has also managed to make five final table finishes in the WPT. This is no small feat.
Among the many cash prizes that he has won, Lindgren bagged 1 million US dollars after beating 17 other players at a Hold’em event in Australia in 2007. To date, the relatively young poker star has made over 10million US dollars from live tournaments.
Apart from his numerous cash and title wins, Lindgren is a popular name in the poker world due to the book he authored; World Poker Tour: Making the Final Table. This book provides strategies that one can use during tournaments. It is helpful for those who are beginners in the sport, and for those who are looking to improve their skills.
Lindgren is also famous for his choice of wife. Erica Schoenberg, his wife, was formerly engaged to former tennis star and professional French poker player, David Benyamine. He and Schoenberg were expected to tie the knot after their engagement, but due to unconfirmed circumstances, the union was called off. The fact that Lindgren married Schoenberg after the split only caused a louder buzz in the gossip scene. However, the two seem to make a good couple; Schoenberg has stood by her husband all through his fight with gambling.
