While still in Israel, Eli trained and become an important member of the Israel’s elite commando unit in the Golani Brigade. After four years of service he was injured at war and was bedridden by a leg injury. And it is during this time that he started playing poker.
Before he moved to Las Vegas in Nevada, he spent years working in Alaska as a convenient store owner and a cab driver ahead of begining his career as professional poker player. He moved to Las Vegas in 1988 and opened several businesses as well as investing in property. He used to improve his poker skills during his free time.
Eli Elezra was initially a cash game player and tasted his first tournament money at the 2001 World Series of Poker in Omaha where he won $41,000 in the 6th position. This was the beginning of his numerous winnings in different poker events and draw events.
Eli won his first poker bracelet when he defeated Scotty Nguyen to take the World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi-Low at the World Series of Poker in 2007. Before the event, Eli had made a bet with Barry Greenstein that he would emerge the winner at the event. The bet was worth 250,000 US dollars. Fortunately, he won the event and earned $250,000 on top of the first prize money that he won.
