Has Viktor “Isildur1” Blom Gone Broke?

Viktor Blom, who goes by the online name Isildur1, has become one of the hottest names in the world of online poker. He has not been too visible at many real world poker tournaments in recent time though, thus giving people the overall suspicion that he might be broke. Also, while he continues to compete online, there have been some concerns about his behaviors online in that he has been losing plenty of money off of all sorts of bad hands and difficult strategies that he has been using, thus giving rise to even more rumors that he may be broke and unable to handle the debts he’s got on the game.

Coming Up Online

Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, Viktor Blom started playing poker at 14 years of age. He had struggled at the start to be competitive in online poker, particularly in high buy-in sit & go events, but eventually stuck with Heads-up no limit hold’em. Over time he has appeared on sites like PartyPoker and had even won about $200,000 in the course of two days at one point.

Blom eventually got $1.7 million over two weeks at iPoker. He eventually moved to the Full Tilt Poker site in 2009 and introduced his Isildur1 nickname as a means of getting more action and to eventually compete with many of the world’s top online poker players. Since then, he has competed in a few offline poker events including some World Series of Poker and European Poker Tour events.

Blom’s Top Tournament Events

· 16th place for £33,582 at the 2010 WSOP Europe Main Event

· 1st place for $1,254,400 at the $100,000 Super High Roller event at the 2012 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure event

· 1st place for $160,000 at the 2012 SCOOP High No-Limit Hold’em Rebuy event

· 1st place for more than $1 million at the 2013 SCOOP Main Event

Much of Blom’s success has been on prominent online events but he has carried over to many live events around Europe. However, there have been concerned over Blom’s stability. In particular, there were concerns in 2009 over how he would play on nine tables at the same time against elite professional poker competition. Fellow poker star Patrik Antonius said that Blom is very dangerous and often puts people into extremely difficult situations with regards to trying to win money.

Also, Blom’s Isildur1 nickname had been floating around the online world quite often but he always preferred to keep his identity secret. His loss of $4.2 million to Brian Hastings in 2009 was an especially crucial point in his life. He ended up losing more than $2 million in 2010 as well.

So is Viktor Blom really broke?

While there have been plenty of stories out there with regards to Viktor Blom’s mental state and the many losses that he experienced, he is still active in the world of online poker and has continued to win money. This is in spite of how he is no longer a member of Team Pokerstars Pro, a collective of prominent online poker players.

In the first half of 2015, Blom earned $1.6 million from his high stakes online poker play. This marked his first major rise in a while as he has about $2.5 million in money for use on high stakes poker games. While he was down $1.3 million on Full Tilt, he got $3 million on Pokerstars during that same time period.

His recovery is a far cry from the losses that he attained in 2009 and 2012. He lost about $2.2 million in 2009 followed by another $2.2 million in 2012 to go with the losses he had in 2010. However, his rise in online poker in recent time has been highlighted by his work in August 2015 when he got about 19,000 hands in a week to get $2.5 million to add up to the totals that he has gotten in recent time.

It is clear that Viktor Blom is not as popular or prominent as he was in the past with regards to being a stronger competitor in online poker. However, he continues to be floating under the radar and has millions of dollars to work with right now. He doesn’t have the same amount of money that he used to have but he is far from broke.
